What happened to The Next Right?

I’ve been out-of-country for the past week or so. So to try and get conservative perspectives on the recent legislative events I’ve checked in on the usual suspects, National Review, Frum Forum, RedState and The Next Right. But it seems that The Next Right doesn’t really have much content. What’s going on? Do the Republicans and the Right just know what their future direction is now, so that it is not longer needful?

  1. Robert L. Mayo says:

I used to write at RedState, but left over a policy dispute. People there recommended I try NextRight, so I gave it a try.

It was not a good experience. RedState has its flaws, but it was always orderly. Not so with NextRight. I made an introductory post and the comments rapidly devolved into a mix of profanity and childish name calling.

Moderators at RedState always kept the conversation focused on issues and were quick to delete anyone who misbehaved. By contrast, at NextRight there is no moderation evident. They let trolls and screamers dominate, so it’s nearly impossible for thoughtful discussion to rise above the noise. I suspect that the lack of strong moderators is responsible for the paucity of content.

I never went back to NextRight, so I seldom write anywhere anymore. RedState had a religious/social conservative base, and being an atheist conservative I didn’t feel entirely welcome at times, although it was always respectful. NextRight had no hard litmus tests, but it was chaotic.
