   If a thousand Americans, instead of Russians, had been injured by a falling meteor, what are the chances that we would be soon building a multi-billion dollar Department of Astral Security, complete with orbiting companies hawking costly anti-meteor technology to the government, in order to keep Americans safe from threats from space?
