There’s been a lot of discussion recently on the significance or otherwise of what the new pope has had to say about homosexuality.
But less about these comments from three years back (via Breitbart):
New Pope Francis I is an ardent opponent of same-sex marriage, in coincidence with traditional Catholic belief. In 2010, he wrote, “Let’s not be naïve, we’re not talking about a simple political battle; it is a destructive pretension against the plan of God. We are not talking about a mere bill, but rather a machination of the Father of Lies that seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God.”
The “Father of Lies”!
Are we supposed to be shocked that the Pope believes in the devil? Next you’re going to be telling me that bears shit in the woods!
Shocked, no. Devil-talk has long filled pews (which is probably why we seem to have been hearing rather more of it in recent years from the Vatican) but it’s interesting to see Francis dragging Old Nick quite so explicitly into this particular debate.
