Having just promoted two nonfiction books about religion, I should add some fiction to the mix. Check out Rebecca Goldstein’s latest novel, 36 Arguments for the Existence of God: A Work of Fiction. It’s very Goldstein: a perfect blend of intellectual playfulness & seriousness, with side excursions into human nature and academic politics. There’s a good knock-down atheist-believer debate in there, though I won’t tell you who wins. Not actually available till January, but you can pre-order.
My review of Rebecca’s Gödel book is here.
Here is what I found on the annoncement about that future book by Rebecca Newberger: that she is a winner of the National Jewish Book Award and a recipient of the MacArthur Foundation “genius” prize.
That first award — is it some kind of ADL-affirmative action award ?
Or it is quite serious Award ?
On a separate topic, are there any transcripts of Mencken Club 2009 Meeting ?
Your truly, F.r.
Florida Resident: The opening session of the Mencken Club meeting was televised for C-Span. (It consisted of an address by Steve Sailer, pinch-hitting for Thomas Woods, who could not make the meeting because of illness. I did the introduction for Steve.) The rest was recorded on audio, I understand for posting on the Mencken Club website … but I don’t know when it will be done.
Florida Resident: On your other point, Ms. Goldstein has a website here. She is a brilliant woman (and a very beautiful one). She is married to cognitive scientist Steven Pinker.
