It’s Muslim kids, not parents, who are embracing a politicized Islam:
I’ve attended two universities in Toronto and, at both, joined the Muslim students associations. I was told to sit behind the men, not next to them. That it would be better if I covered my hair. That sharia is the optimal way to resolve personal, legal and political issues. I was even told that, when filling out a form, the ink from my pen should not touch the ink of a “brother’s” pen. Is this the modernity and freedom that brought my parents here?
The column was interesting, though her use of the qualifier “conservative” was teeth-grinding. These people are as conservative as Robespierre.
Ah yes, it reminds me of during the Cold War when the hard-line communists were called the “conservatives” and the reformers were the “liberals”. In MSMspeak, conservative simply means “bad”.
The same seems to be true everywhere in the west. Radical Islam appeals mostly to young men.
Well, what is the solution from Canada’s POV?
The same seems to be true everywhere in the west. Radical Islam appeals mostly to young men.
The hijabis the writer referred to are women. In fact, the mother is often the motivating force behind a lot of honor killings.
Yes, Polichinello, but the author of the article was speaking of parents who were much less radical than their offspring. Most of the mothers who encourage their kids to become suicide bombers are located in the middle east, not Canada.
As to the young women themselves, perhaps a lot of them bail when they realize that their function is to be chattel. This one did.
