{"id":9297,"date":"2014-07-05T16:41:37","date_gmt":"2014-07-05T16:41:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/?p=9297"},"modified":"2014-07-05T16:41:37","modified_gmt":"2014-07-05T16:41:37","slug":"pressing-some-buttons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/pressing-some-buttons\/","title":{"rendered":"Pressing Some Buttons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Exorcism-Claimed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Exorcism-Claimed-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Exorcism?\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-9298\" srcset=\"https:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Exorcism-Claimed-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Exorcism-Claimed.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/rs\/2014\/07\/04\/pope-francis-gives-exorcists-his-blessing\/\">The Raw Story:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Vatican has formally recognised the International Association of Exorcists, giving its blessing to a group of 250 priests in 30 countries who claim to save the possessed from Satan.<\/p>\n<p>The association\u2019s practice of exorcism is now recognised under canon law, the Vatican\u2019s <em>L\u2019Osservatore Romano<\/em> newspaper reported Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Pope Francis often insists on the need to fight \u201cSatan\u201d and \u201cdemons\u201d, and was captured in dramatic images last year placing his hands on the head of a boy in a wheelchair who appeared to slump at his touch \u2014 an act of prayer exorcists claim was intended to free the victim from the devil.<\/p>\n<p>The first association of exorcists was founded by Father Gabriele Amorth, the Holy See\u2019s chief exorcist for almost 30 years, who has described intense sessions with possessed people who scream, blaspheme and spit shards of glass.<\/p>\n<p>He set up an Italian exorcists association in 1991, after which he began organising meetings with devil fighters from other countries, leading to the establishment of the international group.<\/p>\n<p>Francesco Bamonte, the head of the association, told L\u2019Osservatore that the recognition was \u201ca cause for joy for the whole Church,\u201d saying that \u201cexorcism is a form of charity that benefits those who suffer\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Middle Ages, wrote that old crank Carl Jung, \u201clive on\u2026 merrily\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>And so they do.<\/p>\n<p>They are good box office too.
