This passage in Darwall\u2019s book caught my attention:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>She lobbied the Second Vatican Council on Third World Development. In 1967, Pope Paul VI established the Pontifical Commission for Justice and Peace, with Ward as one of its members. The encyclical, <em>Populorum Progressio<\/em>, \u2018The Development of the Peoples\u2019, with its criticism of \u2018unbridled liberalism\u2019, its call for \u2018concerted planning\u2019 and the creation of a \u2018World Fund\u2019 are all evidence of Ward\u2019s imprint. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Delightful.<\/p>\n<p>Interesting to see that the Vatican was moaning on about \u2018unbridled liberalism\u2019 at a time when it existed, well, nowhere.
