My true love gave to me a book on pop metaphysics.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I read Jim Holt&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Why-Does-World-Exist-ebook\/dp\/B007HXL016\/ref=dp_kinw_strp_1\"><em>Why Does the World Exist?<\/em><\/a>\u00a0over the weekend. \u00a0It&#8217;s light stuff: A journalist \u2500 though a more-than-usually intelligent one \u2500 talks to philosophers and physicists with interesting opinions on the title question.<\/p>\n<p>Precisely halfway through, though \u2500 pp. 150-153 \u2500 the author deftly inserts a personal story guaranteed to tug the heart-strings of dog lovers. \u00a0My wife, who is of that breed, and not the least bit interested in metaphysics, actually cried when I read it to her. \u00a0AND the dog story manages to include a curious theorem about prime numbers!<\/p>\n<p>Altogether a pleasant holiday-weekend read.<\/p>\n<p>So far as the title question is concerned, there is not much of a conclusion. <a href=\"http:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/new-mysterian-plants-marker\/\">How could there be?<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>. . .
