{"id":6928,"date":"2012-02-12T23:45:40","date_gmt":"2012-02-12T23:45:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/?p=6928"},"modified":"2012-02-12T23:48:02","modified_gmt":"2012-02-12T23:48:02","slug":"for-thee-but-not-for-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/for-thee-but-not-for-me\/","title":{"rendered":"For Thee But Not For Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amy Sullivan <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2012\/02\/the-contraception-coverage-debate-isnt-just-about-the-bishops\/252780\/\">grumble<\/a>s in the <em>Atlantic<\/em>:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/nuns.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/nuns-294x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"nuns\" width=\"294\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6929\" srcset=\"https:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/nuns-294x300.jpg 294w, https:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/nuns.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 294px) 100vw, 294px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Without the work of women like Sister Carol Keehan, president of the Catholic Health Association, and Sister Simone Campbell of the Catholic social justice group NETWORK, there would be no health reform and therefore no contraception coverage mandate to argue over &#8212; not just for the employees of Catholic hospitals and universities, but for the estimated 24 million other women who will benefit from this aspect of the law. <\/p>\n<p>So, yes, a little gratitude from women&#8217;s health advocates and other liberals would be appropriate. Instead, when these Catholic sisters and others asked for some flexibility with regard to the mandate, the advocates pooh-poohed as irrelevant their concerns about religious liberty and insisted that &#8220;the bishops&#8221; were the only ones who had a problem with contraception coverage. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well, cry me a a river.The likes of these \u201cCatholic sisters\u201d were happy to work for Obamacare to be imposed on the country (fair enough, that\u2019s all part of the democratic process), but now that that law has gone through, what is good enough for everyone else is not, it seems, acceptable to them.
