{"id":4792,"date":"2010-09-24T02:44:45","date_gmt":"2010-09-24T02:44:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/?p=4792"},"modified":"2010-09-24T02:44:45","modified_gmt":"2010-09-24T02:44:45","slug":"wisdom-from-facebook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/wisdom-from-facebook\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Wisdom&#8221; from Facebook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s something I saw on a Facebook discussion which caught my attention:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230; The idiots who <strong>threatened violence<\/strong> over South Park are no more representative of Islam than the idiot <strong>threatening to burn Qur&#8217;ans<\/strong> is representative of Christianity.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Let&#8217;s grant validity of the assertion of statistical unrepresentativeness. It still seems informative that the two actions, threatening violence against those who offend, and offending in a very blasphemous manner, are juxtaposed as if they exhibit some equivalence. They do, once you implicitly agree that there is a qualitative difference between Islam and Christianity.<\/p>\n<p>Second, those American and Canadian Muslims who are <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/cityofbrass\/2010\/09\/statement-on-free-speech-by-mu.html\">defending Molly Norris, Matt Stone, Trey Parker&#8217;s rights to free speech<\/a> are to be commended.
