{"id":4059,"date":"2010-04-11T11:29:34","date_gmt":"2010-04-11T19:29:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/secularright.org\/wordpress\/?p=4059"},"modified":"2010-04-11T11:29:34","modified_gmt":"2010-04-11T19:29:34","slug":"the-wrong-lesson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/the-wrong-lesson\/","title":{"rendered":"The Wrong Lesson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a curious little sequence of video clips from BBC News.<\/p>\n<p>They show us <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/programmes\/world_news_america\/8605791.stm\">how education goes in Finland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Then we get a clip of <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/programmes\/world_news_america\/8605789.stm\">schooling in South Korea<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And then the BBC&#8217;s Matt Frei <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/programmes\/world_news_america\/8608067.stm\">interviews Arne Duncan<\/a>, our federal Secretary of Education, to discuss lessons for the U.S.A. from the South Korean and Finnish experiences.<\/p>\n<p>Going by those experiences, it looks to me as though the main lesson is: If you seek educational excellence, be a small mono-ethnic country with near-zero levels of immigration.<\/p>\n<p>(The reporter actually mentions the i-word near the very end of the Finland clip, but then drops it like a hot sauna rock.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a curious little sequence of video clips from BBC News.
