{"id":380,"date":"2008-12-02T12:19:49","date_gmt":"2008-12-02T20:19:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/secularright.org\/wordpress\/?p=380"},"modified":"2009-01-09T12:25:32","modified_gmt":"2009-01-09T20:25:32","slug":"why-secular","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/why-secular\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Secular?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I want to make something clear, again, so that it doesn&#8217;t crop up on the comments over &amp; over: the point of this website (for me) is not to argue for the abolition of all religious sentiment. \u00a0Rather, it is to push back against articles such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.firstthings.com\/article.php3?id_article=5738\">Can Atheists Be Good Citizens?<\/a> by Richard John Neuhaus, a prominent conservative intellectual.  This is a nation where an agnostic conservative can write books with titles such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B000VZW07A\/geneexpressio-20\/\">The Pursuit of virtue and other Tory notions<\/a>. \u00a0A common sentiment I&#8217;ve heard, and seen in these comments even, is that by definition someone who does not believe in God is simply not a conservative.
