{"id":2220,"date":"2009-06-26T14:14:20","date_gmt":"2009-06-26T22:14:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/secularright.org\/wordpress\/?p=2220"},"modified":"2009-06-26T15:30:51","modified_gmt":"2009-06-26T23:30:51","slug":"not-the-usual-political-prayer-venue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/secularright.org\/SR\/wordpress\/not-the-usual-political-prayer-venue\/","title":{"rendered":"Not the usual political prayer venue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mark Sanford\u00a0occasionally visited\u00a0a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2009\/06\/25\/AR2009062504480.html\">secretive Christian boarding house <\/a>for politicians \u00a0in Washington, reports the Washington Post.\u00a0\u00a0 Coincidentally, no doubt, fellow adulterer Nevada Senator John Ensign also lived there with a few other politicians.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A rival minister now charges that the house was <em>too <\/em>secretive, and thus perhaps not demanding enough of its residents and visitors.\u00a0\u00a0 Is he kidding?\u00a0 Such avoidance of the public spotlight is a refreshing and admirable change from the usual display of public piety that became one of the Republicans&#8217; most annoying traits during the Bush years (naive foreign adventurism being another, related to the first).\u00a0\u00a0 If more politicians\u00a0showed the religious modesty of attendees at the nick-named &#8220;Prayer House,&#8221;* Secular Right would be much less exercised.<\/p>\n<p>*Update: Sanford&#8217;s likely successor, South Carolina Lt. Gov.
