In there somewhere is a version of the &#8220;midwife&#8221; argument&nbsp;&mdash; i.e. that whether or not religious faith was necessary to the emergence of concepts like human rights, and whether or not such concepts can survive in the absence of faith, are two independent issues.  The author of the piece thinks yes, and yes.
